CHIC2K3 Now Open to High School Seniors
CHICAGO, IL (April 10, 2003) - Covenant High in Christ (CHIC) has been a
once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many high school students in the
Evangelical Covenant Church.
This year, some students will have a second opportunity to enjoy CHIC. At a
recent meeting, CHIC2K3 Council members voted to allow seniors who attended
CHIC in 2000 to register for this year's conference, which runs from July
31 through August 6 at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
"Each CHIC, we have received numerous requests to reconsider our policy
regarding seniors who attended CHIC as a sophomore," said CHIC coordinator
Kirsten Bell. "Seniors play a key role in many of the youth groups as they
help plan events, participate in missions trips and encourage other
students. When CHIC rolls around, these seniors are left behind. After much
prayer, discussion and more prayer, the decision was made by the council to
open up regular registration to seniors (wishing to attend a second time).
We realize this is a late-breaking decision; however, we made the decision
as soon as the availability of housing was clear.
"Our heart's desire is that this decision we allow us to include students
at CHIC who are ready and anxious to have CHIC remake their world, equip
them to influence the rest of the world around them and thereby build the
kingdom of God," Bell continued. "However, we would never turn away a
student who has never attended CHIC. Although this may be the second time a
few student
s attend CHIC, this CHIC will still be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."
In other CHIC news:
- Audio Adrenaline will be in concert as part of the Main Stage music
options. Audio Adrenaline has been nominated in four categories including
"Group of the Year" at the 34th Annual Dove Awards in Nashville, Tennessee.
The group was scheduled to perform "Ocean Floor," the song nominated for
"Song of the Year" and "Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year" during
this evening's Dove Awards. The awards event recognizes achievement in all
genres of contemporary Christian and Gospel music and is the premiere
television awards show for the contemporary Christian and gospel music
industry.
- CHIC2K3 students will receive a special gift, thanks to an arrangement
with Zondervan Publishing Company and its publisher, Scott Bolinder of
Thornapple Covenant Church in Grand Rapids where the firm is based.
Zondervan is making new Bibles available at a low rate that allows the
CHIC2K3 Council to give a free Bible to each CHIC2K3 student registrant.
- Event planners are still accepting applications for technical
positions. Staff applications and information sheets are available on the
CHIC website at www.covchurch.org.
- A CHIC Worship Band CD is available for purchase from Covenant
Bookstore. Samples of songs and chord sheets are available for download on
the CHIC website. Purchases can be made from the online Covenant Bookstore
by visiting www.covchurch.org and selecting the Covenant Bookstore link.
- The CHIC2K3 Council reminds churches to pre-register for excursions
using the registration forms contained in the group confirmation packets
sent by the University of Tennessee.
