North Park Fares Well in Track and Field
WHITEWATER, WI (April 15, 2003) - Lacretia Carroll finished first in one event
and placed second in two others to lead the North Park University (NPU)
track and field team in the Rex Foster Open Invitational at the University
of Wisconsin-Whitewater last Saturday.
Carroll, a senior from Peoria, Illinois, won the women's 200-meter dash
(26.09 seconds) and was second in the triple jump (38 feet, 7 inches) and
400 meters (59.02 seconds). Teammate Lucia Abel won the long jump with a
leap of 17 feet, 9 inches, placed third in the triple jump (36 feet, 10 and
one-quarter inches) and javelin throw (96 feet, 2 inches) and was sixth in
the 200 (26.95 seconds).
Other top women performers for the Vikings included Grace Conrad (fifth in
the 5,000-meter race), Allison Weller (eighth in the 1,500) and Sarah Baker
(eighth in the discus throw). NPU also finished third in the 400-meter
relay and fifth in the 1,600 relay.
For NPU's men, Will Mejia had the top individual performance, placing
second with a toss of 45 feet, 5 inches in the shot put and sixth (133-11)
in the hammer throw. Chris Gruenewald was fifth in the 1,500, Jerry Kosiba
was fifth in the javelin and Dante Britten was fifth in the 100, seventh in
the long jump and eighth in the 200. The NPU 400
relay team was also fifth in a meet in which no team scores were totaled.
