Kane (PA) Church to Celebrate 125 Years of Ministry
KANE, PA (April 23, 2003) - Emmanuel Mission Church in Kane will celebrate its
125th anniversary on June 29, beginning with a 10:30 a.m. worship service.
The special speaker for the morning will be Richard Carlson of North Park
Theological Seminary.
A dinner will follow the service. Sunday evening at 7 p.m., retired
Covenant pastor Eldon Johnson and his wife, Rosemary, will lead a special
brown hymnal sing-along. For some three decades Johnson served as senior
pastor at Zion Covenant Church in Jamestown, New York, located about 45
minutes from the Kane community.
Emmanuel Mission Church was founded as the Free Evangelical Lutheran Church
of Kanesholm on April 15, 1878. It was only 13 years after the village of
Kane had been founded. A revival led by A.J. Nelson of Jamestown, New York,
and Charles Peterson of Knoxville, Illinois, one year earlier was the
catalyst for the founding of the new church, which had 28 charter members.
Peterson became the first pastor for the congregation.
More information on the anniversary celebration, call Kane pastor Becky
Erickson at 814-837-8760.
