Seminary Professor Honored for Bonhoeffer Book
CHICAGO, IL (June 16, 2003) - F. Burton Nelson, Ph.D., research professor of
Christian ethics at North Park Theological Seminary (NPTS), recently
received recognition from the Academy of Parish Clergy, Inc. for his
book, The Cost of Moral Leadership: The Spirituality of Dietrich
Bonhoeffer.
Released in 2002 by William Eerdmans Publishing Company, The Cost of
Moral Leadership was named to the Academy's List of Top Books for
Parish Ministry. Nelson co-wrote the book with Geffrey Kelly, professor
of systematic theology and chairperson of the department of religion at
La Salle University in Philadelphia. The two combined to write A
Testament to Freedom: The Essential Writings of Dietrich Bonhoeffer
in 1990.
A longtime professor at NPTS in Chicago, Nelson is also a senior
associate at Oxford University and former vice president of the
International Bonhoeffer Society. He has served as research professor
and part-time instructor since retiring in 1995. Nelson also assisted
with recently-released Bonhoeffer, a 90-minute documentary film
about the German pastor, theologian and resistance fighter martyred by
the Nazi regime during World War II. The film is profiled in the June
issue of The Covenant Companion.
