Covenanter Is Minor League All-Star

LYNCHBURG, VA (July 18, 2003) - Nate McLouth of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Whitehall, Michigan, was named to the Carolina League All Star team last month and he has continued to be a standout as an outfielder for the Lynchburg Hillcats of Virginia, a Class A professional baseball affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

McLouth is fourth in the Carolina League in hitting with a .317 average. He also has posted a league high of 101 hits, 68 runs scored (tied for first in the league) and 30 stolen bases (fifth) through 89 games. He has also added 19 doubles and 37 runs batted in. He and three teammates traveled to Rancho Cucamonga, California, to play against the California League All Stars on June 24.

Earlier this year, McLouth broke a team record for consecutive stolen bases and had five hits in one contest. Lynchburg clinched the first half title of the Carolina League after winning the overall league championship last summer, McLouth's first with the team.
