Dawson Covenant Church Dedicates Building
DAWSON, MN (July 21, 2003) - DAWSON, MN (July 21) Newly appointed Northwest Conference
Superintendent James Fretheim was the guest speaker on Sunday afternoon
as Dawson Covenant Church celebrated the dedication of a
10,000-square-foot facility.
The church had begun the dedication weekend on Saturday with an open
house at the new building, said pastor John Norland. The congregation
also hosted a lunch preceding Sunday's dedication service. Combined
attendance for the events was 400 people. Norland said that one
meaningful moment occurred when building project chair Duane Haugen and
general contractor Ken Knutson placed the keys of the church on the
altar before Fretheim gave a prayer of dedication for the new building.
Dawson Covenant's "Opening New Doors with Christ" building project began
in January 2002 and groundbreaking ceremonies occurred five months
later. The church officially moved into the new building on June 29.
"We had a fantastic day," said Norland. "There were so many friends and
family home for the day and it was a marvelous day of worship. So many
had come home for the weekend and yet we had many from our congregation
and community came too. Duane Haugen retold the history of the past
several years that led to the building project. Our general contractor
Ken Knutson recounted the story of the actual building and did so with
humor and wonderful words of encouragement."
Dawson is a community of 1,700 located about 145 miles west of the Twin
Cities. The church is located about eight miles west of Dawson. The
church has an average worship attendance of about 100, said Norland.
