State Approves Expansion of Covenant Village of Great Lakes
GRAND RAPIDS, MI (July 30, 2003) - The state of Michigan's Department of
Community Health has approved Covenant Village of the Great Lakes' plan
to add 37 nursing home beds to its Grand Rapids continuing care
retirement community.
Covenant Village submitted its application to the state of Michigan on
February 1, and was approved on July 3 - the approval process often
takes up to 18 months. "We hope the speedy approval reflects the state's
confidence in us as a provider," said Steve Karnes, campus administrator
at Covenant Village.
Covenant Village currently operates an 82-residence assisted living
center with hopes of opening an independent living community of 105
apartments. It also plans to certify beds for Medicare so they will be
appropriate for residents to use on a short-term basis when recuperating
from illness or injury.
Although Covenant Village of the Great Lakes' independent living
residents will have priority access, both the assisted living and
skilled nursing residences will accept direct admission from the
surrounding community. The new nursing center is expected to open in the
spring of 2004.
Covenant Village of the Great Lakes, 2510 Lake Michigan Dr. N.W., Grand
Rapids, Michigan, is one of 15 not-for-profit retirement communities
nationwide that are administered by Chicago based Covenant Retirement
Communities Inc. on behalf of the Board of Benevolence of the
Evangelical Covenant Church.
