New Oregon Church Dedicated
SHERWOOD, OR (August 28, 2003) - A total of 885 people attended dedication
services last Sunday afternoon for Countryside Covenant Church's new
facility.
The $3.6 million, 20,000-square-foot structure has been under
construction for a year. It includes a multipurpose room, which will be
used as a sanctuary that seats 500, along with a gymnasium and classroom
and administrative space. Other stages of the building project will
include adding a kitchen on the second floor and additional classrooms
on the third floor.
Countryside Covenant moved into the new facility last week, said Malcolm
Miura, the church's executive pastor. The first of two church services
on Sunday morning had 445 in attendance.
On September 7, North Pacific Conference Superintendent Mark Novak will
preach at the church. An open house for the community is scheduled
September 13, with the official grand opening on September 14. An
extensive publicity campaign will precede the grand opening. Building
committee co-chairs were Greg Retzlaff and Jack Schifferdecker.
Countryside Covenant, under founding pastor Paul Duppenthaler, has been
meeting at a local high school since 1998, and began its ministry in
January 1993. It averages 620 in worship attendance in a community
located 30 miles from downtown Portland. The children's ministry program
has been growing abundantly lately, said Miura. About one third of the
church's population is under the age of 12.
