NPU Men's Soccer Season Opens with Win in Ohio
DELAWARE, OH (September 4, 2003) - North Park University (NPU) opened its
men's soccer season last weekend with a win and a tie in placing second
in the 26th annual Fred Myers Invitational at nationally rated Ohio
Wesleyan University.
A first half goal from Edin Dautovic was the difference for the Vikings
(1-0-1) in Friday's 1-0 opening game victory against Bethany College of
West Virginia. On Saturday, NPU tied tourney champion Ohio Wesleyan 0-0
in regulation play before losing 3-2 in penalty kicks - the result goes
as a tie for season records.
Dautovic and NPU goalie Matt Evans were named to the All-Tourney team
last weekend. Evans had nine saves against Ohio Wesleyan and seven
against Bethany.
NPU's men's team plays in Wisconsin this weekend, with a 3 p.m.
non-league contest against Lakeland College on Saturday. The Viking
women's team will play Lakeland at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
On Sunday, the NPU men play a 1 p.m. match at Marian College while the
women play at 3:30 p.m. Last weekend, the women's team got a goal from
Erin Robertson but lost 6-1 to Virginia Wesleyan College Saturday at the
Methodist Tournament of Friends in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The
Vikings (0-2) lost a 1-0 decision to Ohio Northern University on Sunday
to end tourney play.
