Oregon Church Hosts Conference on Christ and Culture
EUGENE, OR (September 12, 2003) - Dr. Steven Bouma-Prediger will be the guest
speaker for a Church and Culture Conference held at Valley Covenant
Church from October 3-5.
The theme of the this year's conference is "Biblical Wisdom and
Ecological Vision." Bouma-Prediger will speak at 7 p.m. on October 3,
and at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. sessions on October 4. He'll also be at the
church to speak during morning worship activities on October 5.
Bouma-Prediger, who previously taught at North Park University
(then-College) in Chicago, is currently John H. and Jeanne M. Jacobson
Professor of Religion at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. A graduate
of Hope College, he earned a Ph.D. in religious studies from the
University of Chicago after earning graduate degrees in theology and
philosophy respectively from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena,
California, and the Institute for Christian Studies in Toronto.
A noted writer and editor in his field, Bouma-Prediger is working on a
book with Brian Walsh of the University of Toronto entitled "Beyond
Homelessness: Christian Faith in a Postmodern Age." He has also endeared
himself to students and faculty alike with his teaching skills. He
earned a Student Association service award while at North Park and was
noted by the Chicago Tribune, which recognized his talents along with
other Chicago area professors. At Hope College, the Class of 1998 voted
him the school's outstanding professor educator and the 2001 class
student body selected him for the Faculty Teaching Award.
