Faith Covenant to Mark 25 Years of Ministry
ST. PETERSBURG, FL (September 23, 2003) - Faith Covenant Church will celebrate
25 years of ministry on October 26 with a picnic at the beach, said
pastor Jeff Burton. The congregation also will celebrate the baptism of
some of their parishioners during the afternoon's activities.
Faith Covenant Church began its ministry with a worship service October
1, 1978, and signed its church charter two months later. Don Logue was
the founding pastor and served until January 1990. Rock Doddridge served
the next eight years, ending his ministry shortly after the church's
20th anniversary celebration. Burton, an associate pastor at Faith
Covenant for three years during the mid 1980s, has been the senior
pastor since June 1999.
There are plenty of activities going on at Faith Covenant this fall to
coincide with the anniversary. On October 5, Faith Covenant will welcome
21 new members. In November, the church will send a follow up mission
team to Covenant Bible College (CBC)-Ecuador to help the school with
some technical needs. A mission team from Faith Covenant had traveled to
CBC-Ecuador in March.
The church also is beginning a two-phase building project as a way to
better minister to its community and congregation of 340. Phase one
includes a new nursery wing on the north side of the building, a new
entrance on the west side and a number of interior and exterior
modifications, including replacing the roof over administrative offices
and the nursery area. A second phase will include a new sanctuary and
foyer and classrooms. A groundbreaking will be in either late November
or December, said Burton. The dedication for the original facility
occurred on February 6, 1983.
