Busy Weekend for NPU Sports as Homecoming Approaches
FORSYTH, IL (October 21, 2003) - Grace Conrad finished eighth overall
individually as North Park University (NPU) placed fifth out of 17
women's teams at the Millikin University Cross Country Classic last
Friday at Hickory Point Golf Course.
Stephanie Hood was the individual winner, running six kilometers in a
course record time of 20:47.10. Conrad was clocked in 22:35.90.
Teammates Becky Gritter (24:00.90), Kari Thompson (24:31.0) and Allison
Weller (24:34.40) also fared well, placing 35th, 48th and 49th
respectively. Washington University of St. Louis won the team title with
a low score of 60 points while North Park had 175 points.
In the men's competition, Washington University (24 points) won team
honors and NPU was 12th of 18 teams (322 points). Greenville College's
Josh Martsolf ran five miles in 24:52.28 for individual honors and Karl
Hench was 54th in 27:19.56 for North Park's top individual effort.
As part of this weekend's Homecoming festivities, the North Park cross
country program will host an Alumni meet at 10:30 p.m. Saturday in
Legion Park, just a few blocks east of the North Park campus. For more

In other sports news over the weekend:
- Dante Britten gave NPU football fans its biggest thrill with a 62
yard fourth period touchdown run during a 48-17 College Conference of
Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) loss at Augustana College on Saturday in
Rock Island. Quarterback Mike Haehn added an 8 yard run minutes later. A
27 yard field goal by Christian Thomsen provided coach Robin Cooper's
team with its points. Seven different players scored touchdowns for
Augustana and Michael Clark added two field goals for the home team,
which is now 4-2, 3-0 in conference. North Park fell to 2-4, 0-3 in the
CCIW. The Vikings play their Homecoming game at 2 p.m. Saturday against
Elmhurst College at Elmhurst's Langhorst Field.
- In last Friday's soccer action at Augustana, NPU's men lost 1-0 and
the women dropped a 3-0 decision. The men host Carthage College in a 4
p.m. match on Wednesday while the women's team hosts Dominican
University in a 3 p.m. contest on Thursday.
- North Park's volleyball team went 1-3 in last weekend's Elmhurst
College Invitational, losing to Dominican University and the University
of Dubuque (Iowa) in five games each on Friday and splitting matches
with Maranatha Baptist on Saturday. The Vikings host Wheaton College in
a 7 p.m. CCIW match on Wednesday.
