World Mission Impact Is Focus of New Display
CHICAGO, IL (November 11, 2003) - A creative world mission awareness display has
been developed on the third floor of Brandel Library on the campus of North
Park University, designed to inform the student body and visitors of past
and ongoing activities to encourage a greater awareness of the role of
world mission ministries.
"The involvement of North Park graduates and students in mission throughout
the world is an extensive and rich story," say Eileen Thorpe and Carl
"Cully" Edstrom who are promoting the project. "Here (the display) the
challenge of Christ's mission with its sacrifices and rewards is shown. The
on-going call to service is communicated. Dreams, motives and achieved
goals are described."
Included is a large world map showing areas of past and present mission
work by students and graduates of North Park. The Covenant World Mission
logo, "One World, One Mission, Many Cultures," a copy of the mission vision
statement, a brief history and an overview of future trends are displayed.
Current needs for missionaries/short-termers are presented along with a
large poster illustrating the extensive participation of North Park student
teams. Student involvement has grown from four trips in 1998/99 (33
students) to 11 trips in 2002/03 (106 students).
A glass display cabinet contains interesting artifacts from around the
world. One note-worthy item is a hat from the early days of the missionary
service of Peter Matson, who served in China from 1890 to 1940. The display
will change from time to time.
