Alaska Christian College Dedicates New Dormitory
SOLDOTNA, AK (November 13, 2003) - More than 80 individuals were on hand for the
dedication of a 9,000-square-foot dormitory this past weekend at Alaska
Christian College.
Some finish work remains on the 36-bed building named Quyana Hall, which is
Eskimo for "thank you." The name reflects the tremendous number of hours of
volunteer labor that have helped the project become reality, says President
Keith Hamilton. "We are
grateful to three volunteers who have come for two weeks to help us nearly
complete this project," he added.
Also dedicated was the ministry of New Hope Counseling Center and its
staff. "Pray for another possible grant with the federal government to
continue the Center with support from our congressional funds," Hamilton
asked. "We just received a grant also for a new van for our students to use
for our mission and service trips and running around town . . . praise
God!"
Hamilton provided his customary progress report covering the following
additional three areas:
- Freshmen - Our students begin finals next week. It is hard to believe
we have almost concluded our first quarter of whole-life discipleship
training. Our 24 students have served more hours in service and mission
than last year's class because of more availability of trips. We have sent
three teams already and will be sending our choir and students this weekend
to participate in three churches. Pray for our quarter break that we all
can use to refresh ourselves over the holiday and be prepared for a heavy
week upon return with our annual biblical counseling intensive course.
This is an emotional and growing week for our students and staff.
- Faculty - Three of our staff just finished a great Regent Seminary
class in "Counseling in Community" . . . way to go faculty! Currently we
have four staff working towards their Master's in Theology. We are busy
leading both the freshmen and Encore classes in new directions as we expand
our program. We are also happy to welcome Pastor Phil Edgerly to our
counseling staff. New Hope Counseling Center now has a
committed team of four mentors and counselors serving our students.
- Finances - Pray for our weekend benefit dinner in Eagle River on
Saturday night. Our goal is to assist our students with financial support
through this fundraiser to keep our already low cost of attending Alaska
Christian College possible to all who wish to come. Pray for a possible
second federal grant that we will hear about the first of the
year. This would boost our recruiting and scholarship abilities. We trust
God for all things that make Alaska Christian College a ministry for young
people seeking after God and ministry.
