NPU Starts New Master's Program
CHICAGO, IL (November 28, 2003) - North Park University (NPU) will offer a
new Master of Music in Vocal Performance degree program, beginning in
the fall of 2004, after receiving preliminary approval from the National
Association of Schools of Music (NASM) and the North Central Accrediting
Association.
The Master of Music in Vocal Performance will to prepare singers for the
varying demands of the professional market, including solo singing in
opera, oratorio and concert; ensemble singing of all types; and
teaching. Karen Bauer, PhD., supervisor of the Master of Music program
calls the new major a "natural outgrowth of a long history of
professional music training in a liberal arts setting." She added, "To
realize this distinctive program, we will expand our faculty by drawing
on the professional pool in the city of Chicago, as we have always done.
We believe this program has a personal and assertive energy about it
that will be appealing to serious singers."
Ongoing teaching assistantships and scholarships are available, as well
as across-the-board tuition discounts for the 2004-05 academic year. For
details, call Joe Lill, music admission coordinator at 773-244-5634 or
