Covenanters Play Key Roles in Basketball Action
YOUNGSTOWN, OH (December 4, 2003) - Craig Anderson of Northwest Covenant
Church in Mount Prospect, Illinois, helped his Youngstown State
University men's basketball team tie a school record for 3-point shots
in a game, making two treys in a 106-69 home win over Slippery Rock (PA)
Wednesday night.
Anderson, an All-Area player at Prospect High School last year, scored
six points overall. His Penguins hit 14 shots from 3-point range in
raising their record to 2-3 for the season.
Meanwhile, in Evanston, Illinois, another Covenanter was hitting
long-range shots in a losing cause. John Clark of Redeemer Covenant
Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, made two 3-point shots for six points in a
69-61 loss at Northwestern University. Clark's Bucknell
University team is 0-4 on the season.
As Anderson and Clark make a name for themselves in Division I men's
basketball, another with Covenant connections continues to shine for
North Park University in Division III basketball action. On Wednesday,
Cal Ecker had 17 points and eight assists as the Vikings defeated Judson
College 87-73 to move to 4-1 overall.
Ecker, who is from Arden Hills, Minnesota, made three shots from 3-point
range and his team made 14 overall, one short of a school record for a
game. Four family members have played basketball at North Park in the
past. Lamar Townsend had 20 points to lead the Vikings in scoring.
