Women Vikings Upset Rockford College
CHICAGO, IL (January 5, 2004) - The North Park University (NPU) women's
basketball team equaled last year's victory total with an 81-60
non-league home win over Rockford College Saturday night.
The Vikings moved to 8-3 overall on the strength of 20 points by Tiffany
Campbell and 19 points by Megan Slattery. Campbell scored 15 of her
points in the first half - making five straight 3-point field goal
attempts - as her team took a 38-33 lead at intermission.
Anna Mullvain, who led all scorers with 22 points, narrowed the NPU lead
to 38-34 with 18:59 left in the game. But the Vikings took control by
outscoring Rockford 22-8 in a span of 6:17 to lead 60-42. Slattery
tallied nine of those points while Redina Hall contributed four of her
11 points during that period.
Once North Park broke the game open, Laura Mount led North Park's
offense, scoring nine of her 17 points in the final 6:18. NPU's other
starter, Shandrel Young, also played well as she had nine points while
totaling game highs of eight rebounds, six assists and five steals.
Coach Jack Surridge's Vikings travel to Sheboygan, Wisconsin, on
Wednesday for a 3 p.m. non-league contest at Lakeland College.
