Vikings Place Fifth in Track and Field
BLOOMINGTON, IL (January 20, 2004) - Grace Conrad placed first in the 3,000 meter
run as the North Park University women's track and field team placed fifth
at the Illinois Wesleyan University Relays last Saturday.
Conrad was clocked in 10 minutes, 43.21 seconds to beat Illinois Wesleyan's
Valerie Lambrecht (11:11.24) and win the Vikings' lone individual
championship. Lucia Abel was fourth in the 55-meter dash in 7.55 seconds
while Sarah Baker was fifth in the weight throw event with a toss of 11.58
meters.
North Park's distance relay team placed fourth and the 3,200 meter relay
was fifth as the Vikings ended with 34 team points - Illinois Wesleyan had
149 points for team honors - to place fifth of 13 teams.
Will Mejia had the best individual day for the Vikings in the men's
competition, placing second in the shot put and finishing third in the
weight throw.
Dante Britten (6.64) and Chris Wada (6.73) placed second and fifth
respectively in the 55-meter dash, Jerry Kosiba was fifth in the high jump
and the 800 relay team was third as the Vikings placed seventh with 42
points as the University of Chicago was the team champion with 103 points.
