Grand Opening February 15 for Deland (FL) Church
DELAND, FL (January 28, 2004) - Covenant Community Church will host its grand
opening celebration on February 15 after beginning its ministry in the
fall of 2002, according to pastor David Shaw.
Along with the special worship service, the congregation is hosting a
free brunch buffet catered by a noted local restaurant. Covenant
Community meets at DeLand High School and averages 80 in worship
attendance. The Central Florida church has hosted weekly services since
last April following preview services that began in January 2003.
Shaw served as an associate pastor at Northland Community Church, a
large non-denominational church near Orlando. Families from that
congregation who had commuted from the DeLand area have helped form the
core group of this congregation, whose theme is "Together, loving Christ
and serving our community."
Thus far, Covenant Community Church has made its most successful inroads
through its youth ministry, FIREPROOF Youth, said Shaw. The group
meets on Wednesday nights in a downtown coffee house they rent from
another DeLand church.
Outreach for the grand opening includes a strategy of personal
invitation, along with the distribution of 10,000 informational door
hangers the week prior to the event, with the help of volunteers from
other churches including Northland Community.
