North Park to Host History of Gospel Music Concert

CHICAGO, IL (February 16, 2004) - The Center for Africana Studies at North Park University (NPU) is hosting "The History of Gospel Music: A Multicultural Perspective" at 7 p.m. February 29 in the school's gymnasium.

The free event, which includes live gospel music, drama and dance, features performances by the NPU Gospel Choir and the Music and Arts ministry of Salem Baptist Church on Chicago's south side.

NPU's Center for Africana Studies was founded in 1994 as part of the school's effort to create a more ethnically diverse scholastic community. The Center focuses on the needs of three culturally diverse, interrelated university groups, including the NPU community at large, the North Park black community and the African-American intellectual community.

For more information about the Center and the February 29 event at North Park, call Viveca Poinsette, the Center's director, at 773-244-5729.
