Memorial Service Held for Berta Kronberg
ROSEAU, MN (April 8, 2004) - A memorial service was held last Saturday at the
Evangelical Covenant Church of Roseau for Berta Kronberg, widow of
longtime Covenant pastor Theodore E. Kronberg. She died in Roseau on
March 26 at the age of 91.
Born October 13, 1912, in Boelus, Nebraska, Kronberg began school in the
third grade and graduated at the age of 16 as valedictorian of her
class. Following graduation she was awarded a scholarship to go on to
higher education. She married her husband on September 21, 1934, not
long after Theodore had begun serving at Wescott Mission Covenant Church
in Comstock, Nebraska. They shared in ministry at churches in Kansas,
Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Michigan before ending full-time
ministry. As a helpful pastor's spouse, she often served as a Sunday
school superintendent and teacher, as a Covenant Women's founder and
leader, as a Vacation Bible School planner and teacher and as a youth
group organizer.
The Kronbergs spent much of their retirement years in Roseau where
Theodore served interim pastorates for two Covenant congregations.
According to her son, Robert, Berta was able to pursue her more artistic
side with oil painting, crafts and writing. And even in recent months,
her ministry to young and old had an impact on the small community in
which she lived.
Surviving children include Robert, a chaplain at The Samarkand Covenant
Retirement Community in Santa Barbara, California; Lois; Elna; LaVerne;
Doris, and Shirley. Her husband died in 1987.
