Vikings Overcome Alverno in Softball
MILWAUKEE, WI (April 13, 2004) - Senior Angie Willner of the Evangelical
Covenant Church in Fairmont, Minnesota, drove in Deb Rusthoven with a
seventh inning double as North Park University's softball team beat
Alverno College 1-0 in game one of a double header at Alverno College
Monday.
Rusthoven and pitcher Kim Walker led off the bottom of the seventh
inning with singles before Willner's second hit of the game. Willner and
Katie Ritti had two hits each for the Vikings while Walker tossed a
two-hitter.
In game two, coach Dan Gooris' team lost 11-10 and fell to 9-15 overall
heading into Wednesday's 3 p.m. College Conference of Illinois and
Wisconsin (CCIW) double header at North Central College in Naperville.
In game two, Walker's three hits and Ritti's three hits and two runs
batted in led the offense. Walker took the loss in relief of Lindsey Van
Wyk.
North Park had taken a 10-7 lead by scoring two runs in the to of the
sixth inning. Alverno countered with one in the bottom of the sixth
inning before scoring twice in the seventh. Along with Ritti and Walker,
Rusthoven, Willner and Molly Mitchell added two hits apiece with the
latter driving in two.
