Two Covenanters Honored for Teaching Excellence
CHICAGO, IL (May 20, 2004) - Two Covenanters were recently honored by the
universities for which they teach. Dale Reed of Grace Covenant Church in
Chicago and Dr. Kristine Strand of Cape Cod Covenant Church in Brewster,
Massachusetts, were recognized for their teaching excellence.
Reed was awarded a Silver Circle Award for teaching excellence at the
University of Illinois (UIC) in Chicago as graduating college seniors
selected 12 outstanding teachers among a faculty of 2,000. The UIC News
Bulletin reported that enthusiasm and energy are among the qualities of
this year's winners of the Silver Circle award. Reed's sense of humor in
educating students was also mentioned.
A lecturer in the Computer Science Department and the son of Covenant
missionaries Jerry and Nancy Reed, Dale was one of 12 recipients of the
Silver Circle Award. A graduate of North Park University (majoring in
computer science and English) and Northwestern University (Ph.D. in

leading worship and many other aspects of ministry. Reed has been at UIC
since 1996 after having taught at nearby Loyola University and
Northwestern.

College of Rehabilitation Sciences at Boston University. Strand will be

Covenant Church in Minneapolis she served in that capacity at last
year's annual meeting. Her late father, C. Leslie Strand, was a former
