CHICAGO, IL (July 20, 2004) - Rev. William D. "Bill" Clark has been named
director of strategic giving for the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC).
Clark, who has served as senior pastor of Redeemer Covenant Church in
Oklahoma for 17 years, will be responsible for developing and managing
strategic giving for the Covenant, working closely with ECC Executive
Vice President Donn Engebretson.
A principle focus of the position will be encouraging significant
donations to the Paul Carlson Partnership, Covenant World Relief,
Covenant world mission projects and domestic church planting
initiatives. Gifts will be sought from individuals, churches and
foundations throughout the United States and Canada. Clark also will
work with networks of medical professionals within the Covenant to
support medical missions causes in our existing and expanding ministries.

Seminary, Clark also studied at University College in Jerusalem and
North Park Theological Seminary. Redeemer - the first Covenant church in
Oklahoma - was founded by Clark and the late Rev. Edward Larson in 1987.
Today, Oklahoma has 10 Covenant churches with more than 15,000 people
attending worship services on a given Sunday.
In addition to his church ministry experience, Clark served three terms
in the Oklahoma House of Representatives. He was elected chair of the
Minority Party Caucus and was honored by the Legislative Black Caucus
for his service to African American and other minority Oklahomans.
During his last term, he was named one of three Outstanding Young
Oklahomans by the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Upon completion of his
legislative duties, Clark was appointed to the State Judicial Nominating
Commission and still serves as a member of the Commission for Human
Services, a board that oversees the work of 8,000 employees and a $1.4
billion budget.
Clark has served on numerous boards and commissions within the Covenant,
including chair of the Midsouth Conference Executive Board, secretary of
the Midsouth Conference Ministerial Association, secretary of the
Constitution Revision Commission, chair of the Commission on Christian
Action, a member of the Board of Trustees of North Park University, and
as secretary and chair of the Covenant Executive Board.
Clark is married to Dr. Laurie Clark, and they have four children, John,
Christie, Charles, and Mary.
"I am delighted that Bill has accepted this position," Engebretson said
in making the announcement. "We believe that Bill brings a very unique
set of gifts, experience and passion to the task of connecting givers
with the amazing opportunities for effective mission through the
Evangelical Covenant Church."
