Wenatchee (WA) Church to Hold Opening Service
WENATCHEE, WA (August 7, 2004) - Columbia Grove Covenant Church will celebrate
its grand opening worship service at 10 a.m. on September 26 in Eastmont
Junior High
School, according to church planting pastor Andrew Thompson.
North Pacific Conference Associate Supt. Don Robinson will be a guest at
the service, which includes special music from a bluegrass group, a
kid's carnival and a free barbecue lunch. Eastmont Junior High is
located on 905 Northeast 8th Street in Wenatchee.
Columbia Grove Covenant Church began preview services last fall and
conducted its first weekly worship service on February 15. It has
averaged about 70 people for preview and pre-grand opening services,
said Thompson. A key ministry is a songwriters Bible study Thompson is
a songwriter and the church has been plugged into the creative arts
community. They hope to provide creative, Bible-centered ministry to
every generation as they minister in a community of about 28,000 people
located in central Washington.
During recent months, the congregation has sponsored worship music at
Saturday morning Farmers Market events and hosted a comedy concert with
Christian performer Ken Davis that drew 960 people. It also cooperates
with other churches, helping provide shoes for children in the area (an
estimated 500 pairs of shoes) before school starts.
