Anchorage Church Celebrates New Building
ANCHORAGE, AK (September 16, 2004) - First Evangelical Covenant Church
celebrated and dedicated a new building addition last weekend.
Pastor Ron Mancini used the gospel account of Jesus naming Peter ("Upon
this rock I will build my church") during his sermon as more than 200
attended Sunday morning worship. The adult choir special music was led
by 8-year-old Ethan Nelson, a fourth grade student. A potluck lunch
followed worship.
Evangelical Covenant Church of Alaska (ECCAK) field director Rodney
Sawyer was also in attendance during the weekend as the church
officially completed its 1,500-square-foot building addition. National
Covenant Properties is helping with financing for the project estimated
at about $750,000.
On Friday, the church hosted a dinner and country music concert at the
church. The event was designed to bring friends from the nearby
neighborhood in downtown Anchorage. On Saturday, the congregation had a
barbecue and contemporary worship concert.
First Evangelical Covenant Church has an average worship attendance of
about 100, according to associate pastor Nathan Toots. The building
project began in August 2003. Building committee members included
Chester Millett, Jim Hjelm, William Nelson, Stan Bronczyk, Bruce
Markwood and (chair) Wilmer Jayson Oudal.
