Swedish Covenant Named One of 'Healthiest' Companies
CHICAGO, IL (September 30, 2004) - Swedish Covenant Hospital has been named
one of the "healthiest" companies in America, an award of recognition
granted by the Wellness Councils of America (WELCOA).
The hospital is one of only two companies in Illinois to receive that
distinction this year, an accomplishment that usually requires up to
three years to achieve, but in the case of Swedish Covenant, was granted
following the hospital's first application, according to Michelle
Aronson, human resources manager.
"We're proud of this achievement and think the healthy culture is a
large part of why people want to work at Swedish Covenant," said
Aronson, one of the founders of LifeWORKS, the hospital's health and
wellness program. She believes that one key to the success of the
wellness program at Swedish is the ease with which employees can access
the health information and wellness resources they need.
"Employee health and wellness has become a part of Swedish Covenant
Hospital's culture," said Mark Newton, CEO and president. "We take a
holistic approach to employee wellness, recognizing and supporting the
many sides of the staff's well-being: physical fitness, nutrition,
spirituality, financial stability, higher education and recreation.
We've established programs that allow the staff to take their wellness
goals one step at a time and address the areas in which they feel they
need the most support."
