Degrees Awarded, Horners Honored for Service
CHICAGO, IL (December 17, 2004) - A total of 179 degrees were awarded during
the Winter Commencement Convocation at North Park University last Friday
evening, which also marked the last official event for President David
G. Horner who is leaving his position.
Both Horner and his wife, Sue, were recognized for their service to the
university. Both were presented with honorary alumnus awards by Charles
Peterson, dean of academic affairs, and Horner was presented with a
certificate from Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley who proclaimed December
11, 2004, as David Horner Day in Chicago, honoring the president for his
loyal service during the past 18 years.
The university awarded 84 graduate degrees, 38 Bachelor of Arts, 16
Bachelor of Science, two Bachelor of Music, and 39 Bachelor of General
Studies degrees. Adam London, a part of Alaska Christian College's first
graduating class (2002), was among the North Park graduates this winter
and is the first Alaska Christian College graduate to go on and complete
an undergraduate degree.
Located in Chicago, North Park University is a Christian liberal arts
university that serves 2,800 undergraduate and graduate students from
around the country and the world. Within a diverse, close-knit urban
community, North Park offers a values-based education to students
through more than 30 undergraduate majors and an adult degree completion
program, as well as graduate and continuing education in business,
nonprofit management, nursing, education, community development, music
and theology. By integrating faith with learning - as it has done since
its founding in 1891 by the Evangelical Covenant Church - North Park
continues to focus on the important task of preparing students for lives
of significance and service.
