Benedictine Loss Drops Vikings to 3-6

CHICAGO, IL (December 20, 2004) - Lamar Townsend scored 14 points, but the North Park University (NPU) men's basketball team dropped a 73-50 decision to Benedictine University last Saturday night at the North Park Gymnasium.

The Vikings, 3-6 in nonleague games heading into Christmas break, trailed 42-27 at halftime to the visiting Eagles (7-2), ranked 23rd in the most recent NCAA Division III's www.d3hoops.com national poll. They never recovered despite the work of reserves Mike Peterson (5 of 9 field goal shooting), Je'Shawn Stevenson and Steve Reynolds.

Peterson had 12 points, Stevenson had nine and Reynolds (who is from Southwest Covenant Church in Lockport, Illinois) added four points in 14 minutes of play. Another player off NPU's bench, Larry Moore, was the team's top rebounder with five. Matt Harrison scored 20 points, Zach Ramey had 16 points and Adam Hansen had 14 for Benedictine. Hansen led all rebounders with 10.

NPU travels to southern California for a two-day tournament at Redlands University. On January 5, coach Paul Brenegan's team plays LaSierra College of Riverside, California, in a 4 p.m. (PST) matchup while Redlands hosts Robert Morris College of Illinois later that evening. The third place game and championship contest will be played the following evening.
