Hundreds On Hand for Midwinter Conference
ROSEMONT, IL (January 31, 2005) - Some 1,100 pastors and other ministry
leaders were on hand for the opening of the 2005 Midwinter Pastors
Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC) Monday, with an
estimated three hundred others participating in weekend pre-Midwinter
events including Faith and Healing Connection, Youth Workers Connection,
Worship Connection and the Children, Adult and Family Connection, among
others.
Activities formally began with the opening worship service with Haddon
Robinson the preacher for the evening (see related story elsewhere in
this online Covenant news report). A service of holy communion and
healing followed that service, led by C. John Weborg.
Tuesday's activities include a variety of workshops with Marva Dawn
preaching during the evening worship service. Wednesday's schedule is
filled with workshops as well. Preacher for the Thursday evening service
is Eugene Rivers III. Friday's concluding breakfast will feature Jim
Wallis as the speaker.
Several author signings also are scheduled throughout the week at the
onsite Covenant Bookstore , which is set up especially for the Midwinter
conference at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare hotel. Authors on hand to sign
books will include Efrem Smith, Raising Up Young Heroes; Greg
Asimakoupoulos, Ptarmigan Telegraph; Brent Laytham, Scott
McKnight, The Jesus Creed; Michael Emerson, Divided By
Faith and United By Faith; and Jim Wallis, God's
Politics. The accompanying photo shows Asimakoupoulos (right)
signing a copy of his book for ECC Treasurer Dean Lundgren.
