CHIC 2006 Information Now Online
CHICAGO, IL (February 25, 2005) - The website for CHIC 2006 – No Ordinary Day
– is now online with registration information. A web kit will be
available in March that will include templates for Covenant churches to
start their own CHIC websites or link to the main CHIC site.
To visit the CHIC 2006 website, go to the Evangelical Covenant Church
home page at www.covchurch.org and select the CHIC 2006 link from the
events section. Downloads will be added that local planners can use to
promote the gathering, which is the largest such gathering of youth in
the Covenant. CHIC is held every three years.
CHIC 2006 will be held at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
"They do a great job of southern hospitality," says Marti Burger,
director of youth and family ministries for the Department of Christian
Formation.
The university is one of only a few in the country to offer a degree in
conferencing, Burger says. CHIC benefits because the university students
work with CHIC during the summer as part of their internships. The
university also is the only one that has the capacity to host CHIC,
which attracted 6,200 students in 2003, Burger says.
"Early Bird" registration for CHIC opens November 1. High school
students are eligible to attend CHIC if they will complete grade 9, 10,
11 or 12 in the 2006 school year or if they will be at least 15 years of
age as of September 1, 2006. Counselor applicants must be at least 21
years of age by September 1, 2006 and technical assistants must be at
least 19 years old by that date.
Reproducible copies of the registration forms will be sent to churches
this summer and also will be made available online. Space is limited, so
early registration is encouraged.
Registration for adults who would like to serve at CHIC also opens
November 1. Adult registrations received after May 8, 2006, will be
considered on an as-needed basis.
Registration fees include attendance at main events, workshops,
on-campus recreational opportunities and activities, and room and board.
Registration fees do not include transportation costs to and from
Knoxville or off-campus excursions. For more information on travel
arrangements, local organizers should contact their conference or
regional liaison.
