North Carolina Church Concludes Ministry

MATTHEWS, NC (March 4, 2005) - Church of the Saviour concluded its ministry by holding its final worship service February 20.

Carol Bob, retired Evangelical Covenant Church missionary and a member of the 24-year-old church, wrote about the event for the Southeast Conference website stating, "Several of the original charter members attended and some spoke of the blessings received at the church. There were also people present from the prison where some of the members have ministered."

Church of the Saviour – located in a suburb of Charlotte - was founded in 1980. Chuck Thomas was the pastor of the church. According to Southeast Conference Supt. Kurt Miericke, the corporation will stay open for at least a year.

Earlier this winter, another Covenant congregation, Deerbrook Community Covenant Church in Kingwood, Texas, had its final worship service. The Houston area congregation was founded in 1987 and had an average worship attendance of 62, based on last year's Covenant Yearbook statistics.
