Two Vikings Named to All-College Team
ROCK ISLAND, IL (March 7, 2005) - North Park University (NPU) juniors Brett
Mathisen and Shandrel Young have been named to the All-College
Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) team in men's and women's
basketball after ranking among conference leaders in multiple categories
this season.
Mathisen, who is from Lake Zurich, Illinois, saved some of his best
efforts for conference play. The 6-foot-5 forward finished 14th in
scoring among CCIW players, averaging 13.7 points per game.
During conference play, Mathisen successfully completed 74 of 143 field
goal attempts for a .517 average, seventh overall. He also grabbed 7.7
boards per contest (seventh among CCIW players) and his 44 offensive
rebounds were second among CCIW competitors. Overall, he scored 12
points per game in 2004-05.
Young, who is from East Moline, Illinois, finished as the third leading
scorer in the conference, averaging 13.9 points per contest. She also
finished 10th in rebounding with 5.9 boards per game and was 10th in
free throw percentage with a .723 average.
A three-year starter, Young is already eighth in career steals at NPU
with 127 and her career totals in points (917), rebounds (417) and
assists (146) are nearing the top 10 in the women Viking's history. She
has averaged 12.4 points and 5.6 rebounds in 73 games.
Already, Young has a CCIW record for most foul shots made in a season,
making 100 during the 2002-03 campaign.
