VBS Project to Benefit Colombia Church
CHICAGO, IL (March 11, 2005) - Funds raised during this summer's VBS Project
will benefit the Covenant Church of Colombia, it has been announced by
the Department of World Mission of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC).
The "Providing for Learning" project will help support the equipping of
churches and schools to better serve the educational needs in Colombia.
The project goal is $15,500 – enough to provide materials and equipment
for 34 Covenant churches and three schools that are currently
ministering to 3,200 children.
The Covenant Church of Colombia was founded in 1968, beginning in
Medellin and expanding to Bogota and Cartagena, among others. The
Covenant in Colombia has more than 35 member churches, with several
church plants in process. There are more than 20 social ministries, a
national Christian education ministry, a national youth ministry and a
national women's ministry working in three regions of Colombia and in at
least 18 cities and towns.
Gary and Mary Lou Sander and Cathy Campobello are full-time Covenant
missionaries serving in Colombia. They were instrumental in preparing a
comprehensive booklet that will enable VBS programs throughout North
American Covenant churches to know more about Colombia and the
children's ministries in place within Colombian Covenant churches and
affiliated schools.
To learn more about the Covenant Church in Colombia, visit the
denomination's website at www.pactocol.org. Campobello will be traveling
to North America later this year and will visit Covenant congregations
to promote the 2005 VBS project. More about her itinerary can be found
by calling the Department of World Mission at 773-907-3316.
A list of specific needs for the Covenant Church of Colombia's various
congregations is also available through the Department of World Mission.
Those desiring to support this project may direct donations to the
Department of World Mission, 5101 North Francisco
Avenue, Chicago, IL, 60625. Make certain to designate gifts "2005 VBS
