Dusty Larson Award Winners Announced
CHICAGO, IL (April 19, 2005) - Seminarians Philip Cannon and Lester
Sheneberger have been selected to receive the Quentin "Dusty" Larson
Memorial Fund scholarship, it was announced today.
The scholarship helps reduce debt for pastors who graduate from North
Park Theological Seminary (NPTS) and enter town and country ministry.
Cannon and Sheneberger will each receive $5,000. The scholarship is
given contingent on the recipient accepting a call to a town and
country church and will be distributed over four years.
In addition to his studies at NPTS, Cannon has been youth pastor at
Glenview Covenant Church since the fall of 2002. He is a graduate of
Covenant Bible College in Strathmore, Alberta, and from North Park
University. He worked at Winnetka Covenant Church as junior-high youth
leader for two years and at Covenant Bible College-Canada as dean of
men for three years.
Sheneberger was the program director at Lake Beauty Bible Camp and
Retreat Center in Long Prairie, Minnesota, from 1997 to 2002. He also
worked with youth groups at Grace Covenant Church in Little Falls,
Minnesota, and New London Covenant Church in New London, Minnesota.
The scholarship was established in 1997 in honor of Larson, who devoted
his life to ministry in small towns. The Town and Country Commission
administers the scholarship. The commission serves as a liaison between
rural pastors, the seminary and other denominational officials, and
offers educational support opportunities.
People desiring to contribute to the scholarship fund can send a check
made payable to the Evangelical Covenant Church, Attn: Rob Hall, 5101
N. Francisco Ave., Chicago, IL, 60625, noting on the check that the
gift is for the "Quentin 'Dusty' Larson Fund."
