North Park Announces Presidential Candidates
CHICAGO, IL (April 21, 2005) - North Park University today announced the names
of three finalists in the school's presidential search process. The
announcement came after a series of meetings with candidates by North
Park's presidential search committee. The candidates are: Kurt
Geisinger, academic vice-president, University of St. Thomas, Houston,
Texas; Jonathan Heintzelman, vice president for advancement, Loyola
University, Chicago; John E. Phelan, Jr., president and dean, North Park
Theological Seminary, Chicago.
The three candidates and their spouses are scheduled to visit North
Park's campus next week. After the visits, the search committee-made up
of seven board members, two faculty members, and two students-will make
a recommendation to the North Park Board of Trustees. If the trustees
affirm a candidate during their May meeting, the candidate's name will
be forwarded to the Executive Board and the Covenant Annual Meeting for
approval.
President Glenn Palmberg, a member of the search committee, said he was
delighted with choice of candidates and impressed with their
qualifications and their commitment to the mission of North Park. All
three support the unique role that North Park plays as a distinctively
Covenant institution.
"While there are many things that connect people in the Covenant,"
Palmberg said, "North Park has a vital role to play in that process."
