Northwest Conference Meeting Celebrates Growth

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (May 13, 2005) - Dynamic growth was highlighted during the recent Annual Meeting of the Northwest Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church.

The conference vision, "Vital Churches, Planting Churches, Planting Ministries," was evident in the welcoming of new churches, the increasing of the budget and even the location of this year's meeting.

The conference welcomed two new Minnesota churches: The Gathering Covenant Church in Duluth, and Hope Covenant Church in Cotton. The budget was increased $50,000 to $942,504 from $891,798.

The meeting was held at Hope Covenant Church in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Jim Fretheim noted that the church of more than 550 has seen many conversions over the past several months. The meeting was held April 22 and 23.

In other business:

  • The conference recognized two retiring pastors for their service. Ross Foley served 33 years at Faith Covenant Church in Burnsville, Minnesota. Paul Siwek retired after 34 years of ministry, with the last 13 at Crosstown Covenant Church in Minneapolis.
  • Siwek and Carl Taylor spoke at the worship services. Siwek preached on "The Call of a Lifetime" and Taylor spoke on "The Lifetime of Call."
