Memorial Service Held for Faye Haglund
WINSTON-SALEM, NC (May 23, 2005) - A memorial service was held today for
former Evangelical Covenant Church missionary Faye Haglund, who died
Saturday. The service took place at Redeemer Presbyterian Church.
Haglund was called and commissioned along with her husband, Ben, to
serve in Ecuador in 1975, where they stayed until retiring in 1987.
Immediately prior to their commissioning, the Haglunds served as
short-term missionaries for two years.
Haglund served primarily in Jipijapa, where she helped establish
Jipijapa Covenant Church in 1985. Her responsibilities included
visitation, discipleship classes, counseling and serving on the church
board. She also helped train teachers and develop outreach ministries.
The Haglunds first served as missionaries with the Far Eastern Gospel
Crusade (later SEND International, a mission group founded by soldiers
who had been involved with the GI Gospel Hour). They were accepted for
service in 1950 and served in the Philippines for more than 22 years.
Haglund graduated from Northwestern Bible College in St. Paul,
Minnesota, in 1945. Her husband preceded her in death in 2002. She is
survived by her son, Larry, and grandchildren.
