Taiwan Summer Program Ready to Launch
TAIPEI, TAIWAN (July 5, 2005) - Preparations are nearing completion for the
startup of activities as part of summer programming offered by the
Taiwan Covenant Church.
"We have arrived in Taiwan and are completing last-minute arrangements
for the Taiwan Summer Team," say Dave and Judy Dolan, China ministries
coordinators for the Department of World Mission of the Evangelical
Covenant Church. "We have 43 summer short-term missionaries involved
this year in 16 Taiwan Covenant Churches for their Taiwan summer English
program. The churches and short-termers are anticipating a fun and
rewarding summer program."
Thirty-nine short-term missionaries from the United States are scheduled
to arrive in Taipei this weekend on a number of flights, the Dolans
report. "Will you pray with us that God will watch over all the
connections?" they ask. One couple already left early in order to first
spend some time in Japan. "Due to mechanical difficulties on their first
domestic flight, they were not able to make the connection in Detroit
and missed their flight to Japan," the Dolans note. (They eventually
were rerouted on another airline.) "Please pray that the various groups
coming in this weekend will make their connections - 21 of the
short-termers are on the same flight." Airplanes flying to Asia are
already packed to capacity, so seats would not be easy to obtain for any
additional missed flights, they add.
"Presently we are staying at the Shih Lin Covenant Church," the Dolans
write in an email update to Covenant News Service early this morning.
The church has a two-month children's program operating five days a week
from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. "The 60 kids attending are having a great time
already," the Dolans say. "The church co-workers have said how grateful
they are to be able to minister to families in their neighborhoods.
"Please pray with us that the children who attend the various programs
in the Covenant churches will begin to understand a little more of God's
love for them," the Dolans continue, noting that most of the children
who attend are from non-church families. "God bless, and thank you for
praying!"
