New Videos to Celebrate Ministries by Women
CHICAGO, IL (August 1, 2005) - Two new videos, both in the final stages of
production, will help celebrate two important anniversaries related to
ministry by women in the Evangelical Covenant Church.
One video will honor the 90th anniversary of the Women Ministries
movement and the other will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the
ordination of women in the Covenant. Filming for both projects was
completed this past weekend.
Women Ministries of the ECC and the Commission on Biblical Gender
Equality are cooperating to produce the videos, according to Ruth Hill,
executive minister of Women Ministries. The videos will "celebrate the
calling and gifting of women in the Evangelical Covenant Church and how
God uses women to accomplish his mission," says Hill. "It is our desire
that in looking back, we will be strengthened for the future."
Plans call for the 90th anniversary production to be distributed to
local Covenant churches and Covenant retirement communities for viewing
on Women Ministries Sunday, which will be the second Sunday in February
next year. It is hoped the video will be available for viewing during
the October Executive Board meeting as well. Those featured in the video
represent ministry in a number of countries and settings, including
Sabuli Sanguma, Congo; Jenya Haps, Russia; Sue Ead, Enabling Residences;
Adina Pelligrini, Advocacy for Victims of Abuse (AVA); and Flor Retamal,
Hispanic women ministries.
The video celebrating the ordination of women is scheduled for viewing
during the 2006 Annual Meeting in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with
distribution to local churches to follow. Those featured include Tammy
Swanson-Draheim from Mason City, Iowa; John and Kris Stewart of
Worthington, Minnesota; and Carol Nordstrom from Beverly Shores,
Indiana. Nordstrom was one of the first two women ordained by the Covenant.
