Covenant Park Returns to Its Roots
MAHTOWAH, MN (August 20, 2005) - Covenant Park Bible Camp will celebrate its
65th anniversary Labor Day Weekend while returning to its roots.
One of the reasons for developing the camp, located southwest of Duluth,
was to attract professors from North Park University to teach high
school and college students as well as young adults, says Bryan Muecke,
the camp's executive director. That tradition will continue as Boaz
Johnson, professor of biblical and theological studies at NPU will speak
four times over the weekend.
"We're excited to have Boaz join us," Muecke says.
An open house at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday will honor Phil and Kerry
Staurseth. Phil was the camp director for 10 years, and is beginning
studies at North Park Theological Seminary. Former directors also will
share their thoughts, Muecke says.
The camp will be busy over the weekend, with the traditional Family Camp
being held, as well as the Weekend of Encouragement for special needs
campers.
The camp is owned by the Lake Superior District Covenant Camp Association.
