Passing of Former Missionary Noted

CHICAGO, IL (August 30, 2005) - Covenant World Mission recently learned of the death last year of former Evangelical Covenant Church missionary Marguerite V. (Norman) Hartman.

Hartman, 92, of Winter Haven, Florida, died March 7, 2004. She grew up in the First Covenant Church of Rockford, Illinois.

A nurse, Hartman had been the sixth Covenant missionary to Congo, arriving in the country in 1938 and serving there for 18 years. During her time in Congo, she worked at Karawa; at Gbado, where she was the missionary nurse in charge of the medical department; and at Wasolo, where she was largely responsible for the beginning phases of the mission.

Hartman resigned in 1957 and subsequently married Pomeroy Hartman, an Episcopal pastor. She continued missionary service through the Episcopal Church, working with Navajo Indians. Her husband preceded her in death.
