Mary Miller Accepts Position with Seminary
CHICAGO, IL (September 2, 2005) - Mary Miller has resigned her position as
vice president for administration for the Evangelical Covenant Church
(ECC) to accept a position as director of the Making Connections
Initiative at North Park Theological Seminary.
The Making Connections Initiative is funded by a Lilly Endowment grant
recently awarded to the seminary and includes several key focus areas:
- Work with the Center for Youth Ministry Studies to implement the
Youth Nexus program
- Work with the Office of University Ministries to develop
cooperative programs as funded by the grant
- Work with the seminary faculty and pastors and congregations of the
Evangelical Covenant Church to coordinate the Pastor in Residence and
Professor in Residence programs
- Facilitate coordination between university and seminary departments
(admission, development, alumni relations, communications) to ensure the
greatest impact of the Making Connections Initiative
- Work with the North Park University Office of Communications to
develop a marketing strategy and materials
- In cooperation with the Seminary Director of Academic Services and
Assessment develop and implement an evaluation plan for the grant programs.
"I am very happy to have Mary joining the seminary and bringing her
administrative gifts and her knowledge of the Covenant," said Stephen
Graham, dean of faculty at the seminary with overall responsibility for
the Lilly Endowment grant and the programs it funds. "We also are
pleased to have her pastoral experience as part of this initiative,
which will help strengthen our connections with local Covenant churches
and throughout the Covenant as a whole."
ECC President Glenn Palmberg echoed many of Graham's sentiments, saying
that while he is pleased for the seminary and for Mary, "we will miss
her and her gifts and contributions to the church in her role as vice
president.
"She has seen us through a radical change in our constitution and has
done so with skill," Palmberg noted. "And, she just led us through what
may have been the best Annual Meeting (Keystone, Colorado) I have
attended. Her responsibilities include attention to an incredible number
of details, and she does it with great skill. Mary is loved by her staff
and her colleagues.
"While I hate to see her leave her current office, I am grateful she is
not going far and that she will play an important role in another
Covenant institution that I love," Palmberg continued. "Mary will make a
great contribution to our seminary and to seminarians as they train for
ministry. I am grateful for her faithful service and hard work."
Miller joined the Covenant's administrative team as vice president in
September 1999 and will assume her new seminary responsibilities November 1.
