North Park Reaching Out to Displaced Students
CHICAGO, IL (September 8, 2005) - North Park University is offering a solution
for college students attending institutions in the area of Hurricane
Katrina who were displaced by the storm.
The following steps are in place, according to Dan Tepke, senior vice
president:
- The university will take in any student who was admitted to another
institution, without application or applications fees, for one semester
- During the first semester, there will be no out-of-pocket tuition
expense for the student
- If the student cannot afford housing, the university will accept the
student and raise money from churches and individuals to help pay room
and board
- If the student chooses to do a full transfer, then the normal
procedures will be in place for the second semester. (Arrangements will
be reviewed later in the Fall semester.)
"We are working in cooperation with the Central Conference of the
Evangelical Covenant Church to reach out to student populations," Tepke
says. "Owing to North Park's success in restructuring tuition, we are
approaching capacity in classrooms and housing, and moving ahead
carefully to maintain the quality of campus life."
Those desiring more information or assistance with admission may contact
Shari Clemens, director of undergraduate admission, at 773-244-5503.
