Top Christian Artists at Faith Covenant September 16
By Bob Smietana
WHEATON, IL (September 9, 2005) - The "In the Round Tour" arrives at Faith
Covenant Church in Wheaton on September 16, with a unique performance
featuring veteran Christian singer-songwriters Ashley Cleveland, Bob
Bennett and Bruce Carroll.
The concert, which begins at 8:00 p.m., will showcase Cleveland, Bennett
and Carroll trading songs and collaborating in an entertaining and
intimate "in the round" style of performance.
Cleveland is a two-time Grammy winner who has been acclaimed by critics,
fans and her colleagues across a myriad of music genres, including
luminaries such as Jars of Clay, John Hiatt, Michael McDonald, Faith
Hill, Delbert McClinton, Etta James, Martina McBride, Russ Taff and Rich
Mullins. Her latest release, Men and Angels Say, is a collection
of hymns, yet it could be her most autobiographical album to date. The
self-proclaimed "confessional singer/songwriter" first learned hymns as
a child during church services. However, she found solace and assurance
in hymns later in life during some very dark times.
Bennett is a noted songwriter, whose ability to write songs about other
than typical "spiritual" topics has always made him stand out from his
peers. To Bob, spiritual themes are everywhere, even in the least holy
of circumstances. His approach to ministry also follows the same line of
reasoning - that our lives are intricately woven with the sacred and the
human, and that honest communication is ultimately most effective. Bob's
acoustic folk-style recordings have honestly confronted the messy side
of human existence over the years. But those who have discovered his
depth, wit, honesty and musicianship consider him to be one of Christian
music's foremost songwriters.
Carroll, whose career highlights include two Grammy awards, seven Dove
awards and 11 Number One hits on the Christian music charts, says that
his musical journey is just beginning, and every day it takes a fresh
turn. His music defies narrow description beyond "great." His early folk
inspiration, years on the Texas scene, an affinity for pop music and a
love for bluegrass all weave in and out of his composing. Always, it is
original, inspired and able to strike deep chords with his listeners. It
deals with real issues through real insight.
