Watts Named Special Teams Player of the Week
CHICAGO, IL (September 22, 2005) - Vikings punter Brandon Watts has been named
special teams player of the week in the College Conference of Illinois
and Wisconsin (CCIW) for his punting performance against Eureka on Saturday.
Watts punted three times for 119 yards, an average of 39.7, with his
longest being 54. Watts also landed two punts inside the Eureka 20 yard
line.
It was the second consecutive excellent punting performance by Watts.
Against the University of Chicago, he punted five times for 227 yards,
an average of 45.4, with the longest stretching 62.
The junior from Barrington, Illinois, also has been an offensive
workhorse, scoring two touchdowns. He has averaged 83 receiving yards in
the Vikings first three games, including a 50 yard hookup from
quarterback Mike Haehn against Chicago. Watts has averaged 8.2 yards per
carry while rushing for 49 yards on six carries.
The Vikings are off to a 3-0 start and begin conference play against
Augustana October 1.
