Harold Spooner to Be Honored by Stony Brook
STONY BROOK, NY (October 4, 2005) - Covenant leader Harold Spooner will be
honored Saturday at his alma-mater when he is inducted into the Stony
Brook Interscholastic Hall of Fame.
Spooner is executive vice president of outreach ministries for Covenant
Ministries of Benevolence of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
While performing well academically at the college preparatory school,
Spooner also was a leader on the school's varsity basketball, track and
football teams. He was named All Ivy League in the three sports. At the
end of his career, he was awarded the Swanson All-Around Best Athlete.
Spooner graduated from the school in 1970 and went on to Houghton
College, where he led the basketball team in scoring and assists for all
four years while earning a bachelor's degree in science.
Spooner would later return to Stony Brook as the director of Student
Diversity from 1993-1997 as well as the dean of students and advisor to
the UDT Club, which encourages diversity. He also taught Bible and
coached football, basketball and volleyball.
Spooner earned his master's degree from Fuller Theological Seminary.
