Kresge Grant to Assist NPU Athletic Facility

CHICAGO, IL (October 18, 2005) - The Kresge Foundation has awarded North Park University a $300,000 challenge grant to boost the school's capital improvement campaign. The money will be applied toward the construction of the new Helwig Recreation Center.

The center, which is expected to open in the fall next year, will include a 200 meter two-lane indoor running track, batting cages, basketball and volleyball courts, a climbing wall and a fitness area. Currently, North Park has no similar recreational facility.

The deadline for compliance with the challenge grant is April 1, 2006. The Kresge Foundation's grant-making programs are extremely competitive. In 2004, the foundation reviewed 636 proposals and awarded 175 grants totaling $119.5 million.
