Fishing and Buggy Rides Highlight Church Anniversary
Ellsworth, WI (November 7, 2005) - When the members of Bethel Covenant Church
were planning the congregation's 125th anniversary, they knew they
wanted to do more than have cake and ice cream following a special
service. So they went fishing. And flew in a hot-air balloon. And took
rides in an old-fashioned horse and buggy.
"We wanted to do something different," says pastor Rick Klawitter.
The church set up a special catch and release "trout pond," where the
children could try their luck. The fish weren't very cooperative,
Klawitter says, but everyone had a great time.
The more adventuresome had the opportunity to take part in a hot-air
balloon lift off. People also admired antique cars and horse buggies
like those that members once rode to Sunday morning services. Children
especially enjoyed riding in a two-wheel buggy.
Also celebrating its 125th anniversary in October was First Covenant
Church in Cadillac, Michigan. Covenant Vice President Donn Engebretson
spoke at a banquet on October 8. Richard Lucco, superintendent of the
Great Lakes Conference spoke at the October 9 morning worship service.
Monroe Covenant Church in Everett, Washington, celebrated its centennial
anniversary throughout the month. On different weekends, the church held
a variety show, a Swedish pancake breakfast, an open house, and a
banquet with entertainment. Mark Novak, superintendent of the Pacific
Northwest Conference spoke at the October 23 worship service.
