Hooper Bay Fire: the Aftermath

HOOPER BAY, AK (August 9, 2006) - Days after the flames were doused and the smoldering ashes had cooled, residents of this tiny Alaskan village focused on cleaning up the mess while others focused on helping resupply the village with needed necessities.  A number of individuals and organizations responded quickly. Here, Mark Swensen, a pilot with Mission Aviation and Repair Center, is shown with John Wenrich, director of church revitalization with the Evangelical Covenant Church with offices in Chicago.
At least one business and some 16 homes were destroyed in the blaze.
Last week's fire devastated the small Alaskan village of Hooper Bay.
Not much remains among the rubble from last week's fire.

The parsonage for Hooper Bay Covenant Church escaped the fire's destruction, as did the church.
Various organizations responded with supplies, which have to be flown into the village as there are no connecting roads.

 And the cleanup continues.
